Underground bypass of Barcelona-France High Speed Rail. Montmeló, Barcelona, Spain

The existing conventional railway crossing the city of Montmeló at grade level was changed to underground for improving the mobility and urban quality of the city. In the same project, the new High Speed Railway line was built.

The project involved the design of around 1.2 km of underground structure. Sustainment was done with various systems depending on the depth of excavation, ground conditions and proximity of buildings.

Systems using secant piles, diaphragm walls, micro piles, tie backs or temporary props were used.

SILGA was responsible for detail design and assistance during construction.
